Dušan Borković Wins European Championship for the First Time
In the last season, when Aleš Prek won the European Hill Climb Championship in Category 1, his most serious rival was Dušan Borković. This year, when Prek has decided to focus on the national championship with his new car, the Serb driver has become almost invincible. He also comes to Ilirska Bistrica, where he only needs to reach the finish line to win the title of the European Champion. But as far as we know, this will not satisfy him. He will try to repeat last year's victory at our biggest race and by doing that put an icing on the cake to this season.
Otherwise, the 28-year-old racer comes from Pančevo .One would consider him to be everything else but a car racer. With a height of over two metres, he would fit much more into a basketball or volleyball court, rather than into a tight cockpit car. He replied to such comments in his typical humorous tone that the sports like basketball or volleyball are for little girls (in fact, he used a very juicy Serbian word which can not be published), and concluded that he has been born to become an automobile racer. Also his father Jovan used to race – he won two titles of the motorcycle champion in former Yugoslavia and then became a great racer with trucks. Dušan was born on Sunday, the usual day of the race, and as a little child mostly fell asleep while driving in the car. He accompanied his father to the races, so there was no other option and he began with carting at the age of nine. He won the fourth place already in his first race! At his third race, he turned over and broke both hands. But he returned and won six titles of the Carting Champion in Ex-Yugoslavia. led to six titles in karting champion Yugoslavia. In 2001, he began racing cars in the circuit championship in Category Small N2. In Serbia, this is the class in which practically all serial Yugo 55 race. Two years later, he already raced in the national class H, won several championship titles and won the most races in the history of this category. In addition to circuit races he also began racing in hill climb races set a record of the category in all eight races of the season in 2007! A breakthrough was the season of 2009, when he got Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9 with the help of sponsors, in which he races today. Two years ago, he won the title of the Serbian hill climb race champion, but he also competed in rally. At Rally Serbia (former Yugoslavia Rally) his drive was also praised by Mikko Hirvonen - Dušan published this on his website. Last year, he decided to attack the top of the European hill climb races and already on the occasion of his first appearance achieved the victory in the Austrian Rechberg. But then Prek appeared and won the title after an exceptional race. However, this year the Serbian driver has no real competitors. This year, he won 6 times!
For next year, the fast and ambitious Serb from Panče no longer sees himself in hill climb races because of his desire to compete in some of the world's car racing competitions. He is mainly interested in the World Touring Car Championship and the one in the rally, he even wants to try himself in the U.S. NASCAR! He is aware that his wishes cost a lot and therefore hopes to get national support. Perhaps he even manages to get it…
