Rain affected the race, Beneš wins, Bubnič among Slovenes

A strong downpour interrupted the first heat race in Ilirska Bistrica and strongly affected the results. This did not bother Miloš Beneš in his Osella FA30, who won against compatriot Dušan Neveril and the Austrian Felix Pailer. Vladimir Stankovič did not do well, the fastest Slovene was Milan Bubnič in the eighth place. The local also won the Slovenian Championship, whereas Alojz Udovč and Daniele Trani victorious in division.
Sunday morning in Ilirska Bistrica was cloudy and the weather forecast was promising greater precipitation. The first ride started in a pleasant weather and the vintage cars easily made it to the finish. Halfway through the group N it started to rain first at the finish in Šembije, but soon it started also along the course. Due to the increasingly heavier downpour, the race was interrupted and it resumed after almost two hours, still in heavy rain. The results of the first run were surprising, as many of the favourites remained behind, including Vladimir Stankovič. Milan Bubnič did excellent, and he took the lead in the classification of the Slovenian Championship. During the second run, it gradually stopped raining and the course began to dry. Miloš Beneš took the best advantage of the changing conditions and won against compatriot Dušan Neveril. The driver of Osella FA30 belonged to the favourites and he was the only one to meet predictions. Stankovič drove much faster in the second run, yet he remained behind, but the fastest from the Saturday’s training, Fausto Bormolini, did even worse. The Italian went off track and withdrew. Thus, surprisingly, it was the Austrian Felix Pailer who came in as third. Milan Bubnič was excellent in the second run and with the eighth place he was also the fastest Slovene and the winner in the Slovenian National Championship competition. Aleš Prek was second, and he was 12th overall, Peter Marc was third.
