Vaclav Janik Wins Gorjanci Hill Climb Race
The best time of all three Sunday Gorjanci Hill Climb Races brought
Czech Vaclav Janik with his F3000 a great triumph. He also beat
Slovenian Marjan Smrdelj who was in great shape. Dan Michl, an excellent
Czech driver, showed that it is not necessary to drive a formula to
achieve high results; he came as third. The first place in the Slovenian
National Championship went to Aleš Prek, with regards to divisions,
Daniele Trani won the first one, Slavko Zorman the second and Aleš
Žakelj the Yugo Cup. There were very few interruptions during the
competition; only experienced Italian Marietto Nalon had a more serious
accident in which he damaged his precious racing car pretty badly.
Luckily, he was not injured.
Thanks to fine weather, the race was attended by a good number of spectators who gathered at 4300 m long track and enthusiastically followed the fierce battle of 58 drivers. The fastest in all three rides was Vaclav Janik. Also at this race, a prominent Czech driver, who ranks among Europe's top mountain racers, beat excellent Marjan Smrdelj. The third place of Czech Dan Michl came as a pleasant surprise. He drove Opel and beat a few drivers in the formulas and prototypes. Aleš Prek came as the eighth and won the overall standing in the Slovenian National Championship ranking. The second place went to Sašo Horvat and the third to Slavko Zorman. The latter was the winner of Division 2 before excellent Matej Grudnik and local Alojz Udovč. In Division 1, Daniele Trani was unbeatable, but an extremely tough fight took place among the drivers that followed him. In the end, Manuel Dessardo came as the second, before Andrej Prelc. This was the first time in his career to win a medal. Matjaž Mihevc just slightly missed the medal, problems with gears pushed Denis Savič to the fifth place. The Yugo Cup was won by Ales Žakelj, who beat Jure Kovač and the only female driver in the race, Sanja Smrdelj. The next race of the Slovenian National Championship will take place in a month and a half in Lučine.
